is that things will get better with time. It's true, things do get better with time, and that's the worst part, the fact that it's true and it's the correct answer for many troubles. But I know, personally I am an impatient person so waiting is a pain. And if having to wait wasn't hard enough you don't know how long you have to wait till things get better, could be in a day or in a year, and if it does come will you be aware that things got better? Or will a new trouble cover up the victory over the old? But in a long distance relationship time has to become your friend, and in a way time has to become a sidekick. I'm not saying to rely on time to fix everything, but lean on it, let that saying "time heals all" be a guide through the distance.

I've noticed something about long distance relationships, if you and the one you're with don't go into it knowing you will be beat the distance your chances of surviving are slim. When you or your other leave all you're left with is memories and the excitement of making new ones. Be excited when you get to talk to them, even if it's for 5 seconds, make it a very happy 5 seconds. Because sometimes all you have in a long distance relationship is what you've shared together and what you will share together, that's all you have to sooth a hurting heart, so you need that confidence that you will make it, that you and your other will be together once the distance disappears. Memories, excitement and confidence. 3 key things that have been helping me while Sam is away. What are some of your key things that help you?

Welcome to The Extra Mile!
Hey guys,
This is a blog dedicated to relationships with a specific focus on long distance relationships and we want this to be a place for all of you to come and share your stories, struggles, advice, photos, inspiration and ask any questions you may have. We'll also have weekly fashion and beauty tips from Holly! We by no means know everything, but we'd certainly be happy to help you all and learn from you, as well!
Cait's Story:
I met my boyfriend, Tyler, my sophomore year of high school and we've been inseparable (well, not literally!) ever since. I'm now a freshman in college and living in Columbus, Ohio and he is a sophomore and living in Kent, Ohio. We've been dating for a little over two years of which around one has been long distance. Although we aren't that far apart compared to most people in long distance relationships we only get to see each other about once every other month but we consistently keep in touch by screen share movie nights, Skype and writing letters back and forth. I'm excited to share more of my stories and advice with you guys as the the blog comes along :)
Mary Beth's Story:
I first met my boyfriend, Sam, in kindergarden when we spent more time in our imaginary world than in reality. We were best friends from then on, every childhood memory I can recall is with him, I'm even in most of his home videos. I always had a crush on him, wanting to impress him and always on his team. For 14 years we remained very close till we went our separate ways in middle school. It wasn't till after our high school graduation where I ran into him and his family and we started talking again. We've been together since, spending the summer together and becoming even closer than we were 13 years ago. For a couple on months Sam will be South America and as my first long distance I turned to Cait for guidance and now have a want to help others in relationships.
Julia's Story:
I met my boyfriend, Sidd, my freshman year of high school through our school's marching band (I played the clarinet and he played the trumpet). We were always friendly with each other, and we talked from time to time, but we didn't start hanging out until junior year, doing band activities with our friends. The summer going into senior year we became interested in each other, and that November he asked me to be his girlfriend. We've been dating ever since, and now he goes to college in Boston, MA while I go to college in Columbus, OH. I'm new to the long-distance relationship thing, but I know that through the hardships that come along with distance, it will all be worth it in the long run. And now here I am with Cait and Mary Beth and I'm ready to share the experience and hopefully some advice with those who need it.
Holly:
I met my favorite sweater when I was in third grade. It's wonderful geometric pattern haunted my dreams until I finally had to take the leap to go up to it in Limited Too and say, "Hey, can I get your price tag number?" Ever since, we have been inseparable (except when I grew boobs and it accidentally turned into a crop top. Then I stopped wearing it.), changing every part of each other's lives.
......
Yeah, I'm just kidding you, I'm the "fashion consultant" and a cosmetology major, and I'll be doing the weekly fashion and beauty updates!
We look forward to hearing from all of you and sharing our experiences!
